人のメダルをなんで誰かにあげるの？ "What is the point of giving my 'old race medals' to someone?

もしかして「私の古い完走メダルを誰かにあげるのの、意味ってなんだろう。それがどうなると言うの？」って考えてる方がいらしたら。
M４Mカらメダルを受け取った時、（病気の）子供たちやそのご家族の方々いつも深く感動を受けられたり、圧倒されたりなさっているってことをお知らせしたいです。みなさんは、誰かが自分たちが誰かの気にかけてもらっているという風に感じられるようです。そして、誇りに思われるようです。みなさんにとっては、それは「ただの古いメダル」というわけではないようです。子供たちとご家族は、小さいけど、私たちの心のこもった行為をメダル寄付の裏側に感じて下さっていて、深い感謝の意を示して下さいます。
M４Mのチャリティーのいい所の一つは、他にもボランティアやチャリティー活動を同時になさっておられても、特に支障なく続けて行けることです。メダルを寄付して、応援メッセージをみんなとシェアし、これからもみなさんの個人的な善意を広め続けられたらいいなと思います。

If you are wondering, "What is the point of giving my 'old race medals' to someone? What would that do?"
Please know that the children and adults who receive these medals are often deeply touched and overwhelmed with emotion when they receive medals from our organization. They feel acknowledged. They feel honored. To them, these are not just 'some old medals'. They and their families have expressed great appreciation for the simply yet kind gesture of support behind our donations.
One of the great things about supporting Medals 4 Mettle is that you can support so many other charities of your choosing at the same time. Donate your medals and help share our message whilst you continue to raise funds for your personal causes.

お父さんのメモリー・ボックス Dad's memory box

６月３日になりますが、インディアナ州のある人にメダルを送って欲しいというメールでのリクエストがありました。送り主は、韓国の米軍基地にいるある娘さんで、中国での「万里の長城マラソン」を完走したばかりでした。それで、この娘さんは、お父さんに自分の完走メダルを送りたかったのです。でも、この方はできればM４Mのリボンをつけて送りたかったのでした。
彼女の手紙は非常に心を動かされるものでした。そこには、どうやってこの完走メダルを手に入れたのかが書いてありました。
お父様の白血病との闘いは日増しにひどくなり、マラソンを走る辛さなど、比べ物にならないということ、彼女はお父様から遠く離れた韓国にいるということ、自分のマラソンの完走メダルをお父様にあげたらきっと勇気づけてあげられるだろうと考えていることなどが綴られていました。
そこで、私たちは、ぜひ彼女のメダルをこちらに送って欲しい、そうすれば私たちがお父様にお渡しすると言うことをお伝えしました。そうして、私たちは彼女からメダルを受け取り、メダルとリボン、彼女の手紙、病床につく彼のことを私たちが思っていること、だから、彼は独りぼっちではないんだということを書いた私たちからのメッセージも、送りました。
悲しいことに、お父様は６月２６日に天に召されました。私たちにメダルを送って下さった娘さんは、私たちのオフィスに足を運んで下さり、彼女のメダルをお父様に責任を持って渡したことに対して感謝の気持ちを伝えてくれました。メダルはお父様が亡くなるほんの数日前に届けることができたのです。
驚いたことに、最後の数日、彼は自分の「メモリー・ボックス」（思い出の箱）に彼女からの手紙や彼女の写真と共にメダルを入れられ、箱から出しては、ご自慢になり、周りに見せておられたそうです。そのメダルも含めた「メモリー・ボックス」はとてもきれいに作られていらっしゃいました。彼はこの世を去られましたが、その代わりに、娘さんがお父様のために何かをした、という素敵な思い出を残されました。
ご家族はこの「メモリー・ボックス」を一生涯大切になさるでしょう。
このお嬢さんとお母様は、このストーリーをM４Mの方で共有して欲しいということなんです。携帯で撮影し、写真があまりよくなくてすみません。どんなものかという大体の雰囲気は伝わるのではないかと思います。
On June 3rd last month M4M rec'd an "on-line" request for a medal gift to be sent to an Indiana resident. The sender was a daughter, in the military (Army) stationed in South Korea. She had just completed the GREAT WALL OF CHINA Marathon. She wanted her Dad to have the medal. However, she wanted it sent to him on a Medals4Mettle Ribbon. Her letter was very touching; about how she earned it but that his battle with leukemia was much worse than what it took to run the race; she was so far away from him; how she thought that giving him the medal would encourage his fight, etc. So, we told her to send us her medal and we would get it to her Dad. Upon receipt of the medal, we mailed it with her letter on our ribbon with our little card about how someone was thinking of him in his fight and wanted him to know he was not alone.
Sadly, he passed away last week, June 26. His daughter (the one who sent us the medal and earned the medal) just stopped by the office to THANK US for making sure he rec'd the medal from her. He rec'd it a couple days before he passed. What was amazing was that during the few days he had the medal he had put it in a MEMORY BOX with her note, her photo and her medal to brag about it and show it off. It was a beautiful display! Instead, he left a wonderful momento of what she had done for him. The family loves this item and will cherish it forever. The daughter and wife wanted to share this with our organization so I am passing it along to all of you. Sorry the photo is not great - cell phone - but you get the idea.

M４Mが始まったきっかけは、このドクター・アイゼンバーグというインディアナポリスのお医者様。彼が、自分の患者さん（子供たち）に自分の完走メダルを上げ始めたのが、そもそもの始まりです。

先週の水曜日、インディー（インディアナポリス）のライリー子供病院の入院患者の子供たちに１５０以上のメダルが渡されました。看護師とチャイルド・ケア・コーディネーターは、ロビーに来て、参加できない子供たちのためにメダルとクッキーをピックアップして、それぞれの病室に持って行ってあげました。イベントには、一晩中、長蛇の列ができ、私たちはたくさんの病気と闘っている子供たちやご家族の方々に会うことができました。それから、インディ５００のカードドライバーや、インディ５００のプリンセス（ミス・インディー５００）も来てくれました。とても素晴らしいイベントでした。たくさんの写真を撮影しましたので、これから順に紹介していけたらなと思います。
Last Wednesday night we awarded over 150 medals to inpatients at Riley Chidrens Hospital in Indy. Nurses and Child Care Coordinators came down to the lobby to get medals and cookies (thank you to Todd Schwenn at McFarling Foods) for those patients who could not make it to the lobby. There was a long line all evening and we met many courageous kids and parents. Indy car drivers and crews and the 500 Festival Princesses were there. There are many great pics. I will forward some more of them separately for you to open if you wish. Thank you Sally and all the Indy volunteers. What a great night!
