アイゼンバーグ先生、こんにちは。

私の名前は、JM（ブログ掲載のために仮名。以下、人物名に関して同様）と申します。先生は、私の三人のこどもの扁桃腺、アデノイドなどを除去して下さいました。そして、私の母のCMは先生に長い間診ていただいております。昨年、先生はご親切に、M４Mのカードを私に送ってくださり、私はそのカードを義理の妹のJに自分のミニマラソンのメダルと一緒に渡しました。J は、ステージ４の直腸がんの患者です。J はメダルを受け取り、それはそれは喜んでいました。彼女のキモセラピーはうまく行っておりました。昨年の６月の検査の結果が良好だったので、家族でそれを祝い、J も今度は自分の足でミニマラソンを走るのだという計画をたてておりましたが、９月に再びがんに襲われていることを知ってしまいました。彼女は必死に戦いましたが、腹膜に転移しており、同時に腹部全体に広がっておりました。今年の２月にカリフォルニアで除去手術を行いましたが、お医者様がお腹を切って中を見た時、がんが広がりすぎていたそうです。Jは、現在、ホスピスにおり、人生の最終章を迎えようとしております。あと数週間、または、数ヶ月かもしれないということです。それを知り、私たちの真ん中の娘 E（７歳）が、自分もミニマラソンを歩いて完走し、その完走メダルを　J おばさんに渡したいと言っています。私たちは元々、このミニマラソンは、J も一緒に参加できることを期待して４人分の申し込みをしていたので、準備完了です。それで、今年は、主人の JF、９歳になる娘の KD と真ん中の娘と私の四人で、J への思いを込めて、ミニマラソンに歩きで参加します。私たちは、真ん中の娘の完走メダルを　J に送るつもりです。それで、先生にお願いがあります。昨年のように、M４MのリボンとM４Mのカードを昨年のようにこちらに送付していただけないでしょうか。実は、今年と昨年のミニマラソンのメダルを二つ、Jに送ることには少し特別の意味があります。J には、EL（８歳）とEV（６歳）という二つの娘がおります。それで、将来、この二人がこのメダルを一つづつ手にして、お母さんが子供たちのために病魔と一生懸命に戦ったということを忘れないで、思い出にできることができたらな、と思います。

お時間を取らせてしまい、申し訳ありません。WISH-TVの広報担当の方から先週メールをいただき、私たちの真ん中の娘のE は７歳でミニマラソンを走る４人の中の一人であることを知らされました。そして、E に会いたがってくださっており、レース当日も彼女をレポートしたいということでした。まだ何もアレンジはしていないのですが、ただ、娘の E は、ミニマラソンでは、走るのではなくて歩きでの参加であるということ、また家族全員で　J　への思いを込めて歩いて完走して、 E　のメダルは　J　へ渡すものであり、これは、昨年、M４Mの活動を通じてしたのと同じことである、ということはお伝えしてあります。

できれば、来年、M４Mのボランティアとして、何か活動ができればいいなと思っております。M４Mコーディネータのサリーさんからいつもご連絡をいただいているのですけど、私たちは出張や旅行ばかりしており、なかなか実現ができておりません。J　の家族は西海岸に住んでおり、私たちも会いに行くために、留守がちになってしまいます。でも、いつの日か落ちついたら、ぜひボランティアしたいです。

早速のお返事、ありがとうございました。今日先生が私たちに送ってくださったM４Mのカードもありがとうございます。この出来事は私たちの人生を変えるできごとであり、家族には本当に悲しいことですが、私たちが　J　と一緒に過ごせる最後の時間を楽しく過ごそうとみんなで決めました。彼女が笑顔でいられることは何でもしたいです。J　がこのメダルを受け取る時に、きっと満面の笑顔を見せてくれることでしょう。そして、彼女の娘たちも　J　のこの笑顔を心に刻むことでしょう。

こんにちは。
J　のミニマラソンのメダルのためにカードを送って下さって本当にありがとうございました。これは、私たちが彼女のためにできる最後の闘いでした。J　は火曜日の早朝に天に逝きました。先生は、私たちがメダルのためにリボンが必要かどうか聞いて下さいましたが、私はそのまま先生のメールにお返事するのを忘れておりました。もしもできましたが、ありがたいです。難しいようなら、お気になさらないでください。私たちは純粋に彼女に病気との最後の闘いのためにメダルをM４Mを通じて渡すことができたことを感謝しています。今は、Jの二人の娘がM４Mのリボンをつけたきちんとした形のメダルを一人一個づつ持って、お母さんの思い出の全てと一緒に宝箱に仕舞ってくれたらな、と思います。数週間前に、カードを送って下さってありがとうございました。

M４Mは、みんなの人生にとっての贈り物です。というのは、私たちが一番落ち込んでいる時に一人一人を励ましてくれるからです。そして、落ち込んでいる時の励ましと言うのは、一番必要なものです。神様の祝福がみなさんにありますように。

Good morning Dr. Isenberg,

My name is J.M. You removed tonsils, adenoids and tubes for all three of my children and my mother C.M has been a long-time patient of yours. Last year, you were so kind as to send us the Medals 4 Mettle insert card (what you send to recipients) to me to include in with my mini-marathon medal to award to my sister-in-law, J, who has stage 4 colon cancer. She was so touched when she received the medal. She did well with chemo. We celebrated her clear scans last June and she made plans to do the mini marathon with us this year until September when she learned the cancer had returned with a vengeance.  She has fought hard, but it moved to the peritoneal lining and has spread all over her abdomen. She tried to have a cutting edge surgery in California in February but when the doctor opened her up, the cancer was too advanced. She is now in hospice and in the final stages of life. We are told it could be anywhere from weeks to maybe a month. That said, our middle daughter, E,  (age 7) told us she wants to walk the mini marathon and award her medal to Aunt J. Since we had done four registrations in our family’s names in hopes of J attending, we are set. So, this year, my husband, J.F, K.D (our 9 year old daughter), E and myself will walk in J’s honor. We plan to send E’s medal to J. Would it be possible for you to send me the enclosures again so that I can send the package like I did last year? The nice thing about J receiving two medals (last year and this year) is that she has two daughters: Ev (8) and El (6). It will be nice for each of them to have a medal to keep and cherish and one day look at and be reminded that their mother fought hard for them.

Thank you for your time. A media person from WISH-TV did send us an e-mail last week to let us know that E is one of 4 seven year olds doing the race this year. Someone wanted to meet with us and follow E’s progress during the race. I’ve not formally arranged anything with anyone, but I did e-mail to clarify that E would be walking, not running, and that as a family we would be walking in J’s honor and awarding one of our medals to J like we did last year as part of  Medals 4 Mettle.

I hope we will be able to volunteer this coming year. We get updates from Sally Powell, but we have been out of town so much this year. J’s family lives out west so we’ve been out there a lot and the times just have been difficult. But our hope is that as things settle down we can give of our time.

Thank you so much. We appreciate what you sent to us. This has been life-changing and very sad for our family, but we are determined to enjoy every last minute we have together. Anything for one more smile. She will smile when she receives this medal and that is one more smile her little girls will have to hold in their hearts!

Hello,

Thank you so much for the enclosure card to go with our mini marathon medal awarded to Julie Lamb. That was the final race we were able to complete for her. Julie died early Tuesday morning. You mentioned that you could send a ribbon if we wanted one – I forgot to ask for one. If you can, great. If not, no worries. We are just thankful to have awarded her the final medal with your organization information again. Now we are just hoping each of her little girls has a medal complete with the Medals4Mettle ribbon and enclosure to save in their treasure box of all of their memories of mommy. Thank you for sending the enclosure a few weeks ago.

Your organization is a gift to every life it touches because it encourages individuals in some of life’s weakest moments – when it is most needed. God bless you and all of the wonderful work you do.
